Excellence in Teaching Award

"To pay tribute to alumni for extraordinary distinction 
in the teaching profession"

M. Lee Upcraft '60, '61 
Dr. M. Lee Upcraft has attained distinction as a higher education administrator, faculty member and researcher. He was a career student affairs administrator, responsible for several student services, including residence halls, counseling and health services, academic advising, orientation and student activities. His service as a professor of higher education included teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels and authoring/editing over 100 publications, including eight books, on topics such as residence life, alcohol education, the freshman year experience, academic advising and assessment. His work has been noted nationally by several professional organizations, including recognition as a senior scholar diplomate of the American College Personnel Association. Dr. Upcraft is currently a Senior Research Scientist, Professor Emeritus of Higher Education and Assistant Vice-President Emeritus for Student Affairs at Penn State University. Lee Upcraft has had a substantial impact on his students, his colleagues and higher education policies and practices at the national level.
